Backpack & School Supply Program

More than 1,000 filled backpacks have been provided free of charge to Binghamton youth since Mayor Richard C. David's office and the United Way of Broome County first partnered on a school supply giveaway in 2017.

Ahead of the 2018-19 school year, Mayor David's office and the United Way of Broome County worked directly with the Binghamton City School District to identify students in need of supplies. The program funded nearly 560 backpacks filled with a total of about 2,220 school supply items. The biggest portion of the backpacks went to Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School on the North Side, where students entering grades kindergarten through two had backpacks and all required supplies waiting for them on the first day of school.
