The Zoning Administration and Enforcement group is responsible for enforcing local municipal laws--most importantly, Chapter 410 of the Code of the City of Binghamton--which govern land use throughout various municipal zoning districts.
The Zoning Officer, with support from Planning staff, provides administrative and enforcement services, in relation to project development, such as the Series A Site Plan review and Special Use permitting process, available in the Planning and Zoning Application.
In addition, the Zoning Officer investigates complaints and prosecutes violations of laws regulating the type of occupancy or use, lot coverage, setbacks, boundaries, density, parking, and noise. This work includes field investigation of structures for regulatory compliance and code interpretations subject to review by the Zoning Board of Appeals.
The Zoning Officer, in concert with staff from the Office of Economic Development, Planning, Corporation Counsel, and Engineering, provides technical support and compliance services to ensure that land use development is successful and consistent with the goals of our community, as expressed in the comprehensive plan.
