The Zoning Officer is responsible for enforcing Chapter 410 of the Code of the City of Binghamton, which governs land use throughout various municipal zoning districts.
The Zoning Officer, with support from Planning staff, provides administrative and enforcement services, in relation to project development. In addition, the Zoning Officer investigates complaints and prosecutes violations of laws regulating the type of occupancy or use, lot coverage, setbacks, boundaries, density, parking, and noise. This work includes field investigation of structures for regulatory compliance and code interpretations subject to review by the Zoning Board of Appeals.
The Zoning Officer, in concert with staff from the Office of Economic Development, Department of Planning and Zoning, Corporation Counsel, and Engineering Department, provides technical support and compliance services to ensure that land use development is successful and consistent with the goals of our community, as expressed in the comprehensive plan.
