Mayor Kraham Announces Start of Work to Install New Sidewalks on Prospect Street
(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.)—Mayor Jared M. Kraham on Monday announced work is underway to install new sidewalks on Prospect Street in the First Ward.
Mayor Kraham said: "This critical infrastructure work will upgrade aging, crumbling sidewalks to make a key First Ward corridor more accessible for residents and safer for kids walking to and from school. It's the latest example of how we're investing in neighborhoods across Binghamton to make them safer and better for the people who live here."
On Monday, crews began installing new sidewalks on the south side of Prospect Street. The new sidewalks will stretch between Mygatt Street and Holland Street, replacing an aging asphalt walkway near the Spring Forest Cemetery and stretches of old concrete sidewalk in disrepair further west.
The work is being done by Boland's Excavating & Topsoil Inc., of Conklin.
The cost of the project is $242,000 and will be paid for by the City with Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPs) grant funding.
The work is expected to be complete by mid-November.
