Every ten years following the Census, City Council is required by New York State Municipal Home Rule Law to pass a Local Law allowing for the reapportionment of City Council districts to more closely reflect changes in population recorded by the newest census data. City Council conducted meetings to inform the public, detailed the process, received and reviewed proposed maps, received public input, and ultimately came to a decision and passed the Local Law containing the approved new Council District map.

The Municipal & Public Affairs Committee of City Council conducted meetings to review and discuss reapportionment of the City Council districts in the City of Binghamton to comply with State and Federal law.

City Council accepted proposed maps for consideration during the redistricting process. Residents were welcome to submit proposed maps.
